The Cilento, together with the Vallo di Diano, of western Lucania, is a mountainous subregion of Campania in the province of Salerno, in the southern part of the region, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Until the creation of the Cilento National Park, Vallo di Diano and Alburni the Cilentan territory was identified among the towns at the foot of Monte della Stella (1 131 m) and others bordered to the east by the river Alento. For objective reasons we wanted to extend the Cilento to much of the southern coastal and inland province of Salerno. In ancient times Cilento was part of Lucania (together with the Vallo di Diano and the Gulf of Policastro). It has remained a sign in the dialect, in the gastronomic traditions and in the toponymy (Vallo della Lucania, Atena Lucana).
